We are thankful for our partnership with Ikamva Labantu and that they have once again made it possible for us to assist the Cape Town community for Mandela Day 2021.
This year, whilst celebrating our 50th anniversary, we were able to donate 50 fire extinguishers to Early Childhood Development Centre’s (ECD's) in Cape Town.
As part of their ECD programme, Ikamva Labantu assists Cape Town communities in registering their preschools and accessing a government grant. They also provide training to community principals and practitioners in best-practice techniques and support them with educational equipment and learning materials so that they can implement these learnings at their preschools.
Having Fire Extinguishers in the ECD's plays an important role in their registration with the Department of Social Development as well as protecting the children and staff at the centres in the event of a fire. Thanks to Ikamva Labantu, we were able to hold a virtual event for the handover of the Fire Extinguishers to the ECD's which made it possible for our whole Team to get involved and be part of the donation.
Ikamva Labantu also arranged a great Mandela Day handover event afterwards at their Enkululekweni Wellness Centre in Cape Town. The purpose of the event was to handover the 50 fire extinguishers that we've donated to the principles of the Early Childhood Development Centres. Alistair and Denver attended along with the CoCT Disaster Management, Nombeko Kopele who demonstrated to everyone how to use these extinguishers. “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” - Nelson Mandela
